Eco Broadway

Concept
Stemming from the growing need to create smaller, self sufficient communities, the eco-district draws together residences, local businesses, and community events/ activities to create an environment that is both stimulating and enjoyable.
Inception
The complex's main drive was at first to invite the community into the space with plentiful activities and businesses and once there to slowly reveal and raise awareness of sustainable practices by both physically moving them through the site and then educating them about these sustainable practices through seminars, classes, and workshops. The complex's architecture uses reclaimed oak, pine, cedar, D Haneis brick, and concrete.
Program
Through the establishment of an organic grocery store, community gardens, farmers markets, etc... The public is invited to participate in the community and further integrate the sustainable lifestyle into their lives.
Sustainable Systems
The center utilizes geothermal heating and cooling systems across the site, solar panels, water cisterns, community gardens, gray water collection systems, wind turbines, energy monitoring systems to raise public awareness of energy/ water consumption, low-flow toilets, shower timers to make residents conscious of energy and water usage.
